This connecting link, also known as a master link, is a great way to attach two ends of chain back together.  While some builders prefer to create a loop of chain by pressing a pin back in to make a continuous loop void of any connecting links, you might consider a connecting link in loops that you need to remove for service or haven’t settled on a length for your final build yet.
